Reminiscing

This page of The Raspa web site is the place to go back and reminisce about the dates we have played and you have gone to. Whether you laughed or cried there's no doubt they've been written in the past as well as this site. This is only since 2004 since that was when we decided to add this section. The most recent days are on top, so depending how you want to read it here you go, and have fun reminiscing.

7/31/05
What better way to leave July then to play in the nation's music capital. The Flamingo Cantina hosted Ghandaia, The Stingers, 6 Pack Deep, as well as The Raspas. We jammed out and had a blast on 6th street. We met some new friends and had a great night. 6 Pack Deep told us they would like to bring us back to Louisiana to throw a performance or two. So you may soon see Baton Rouge, Louisiana on our tour dates!

7/22/05
Houston, TX was the place to be on this Friday. We jammed out at Last Concert Cafe and had a sweet time. The rain was falling, but it didn't stop the rhymes. The night went on and the people danced. Thanks to all that came out. It's a new area for us, but you can expect to see us again soon (August 19th).

7/17/05
It was good to meet back up with Monkies Doin' It at Dr. Rockits after their music benefit. The place was packed and the people were dancing the whole night. We've got so much love for Corpus. It's our home 2 and a half hours away from home.

7/15/05
Not a single person was living the poor man style on this night. We jammed at Palm Street Pier on South Padre Island and there was no cover for all ages. The night went off just like the fireworks over the bay before the performance.

7/6/05
We've known that Corpus Christi goes off on Sundays, but I guess they get that crazy every night. On this Wednesday Sun Salutation shared the stage with us at Dr. Rockits to through what turned out to be a sweet show. We want to thank those who came out and saw us for the first time. We sold a whole lot of merchandise. Much love and thanks to everyone's support.

6/25/05
We traveled a little more than an hour away from the Valley to find ourselves in a town just under Kingsville called Ricardo. We weren't fooled by the fact that it was a small town and the place we were playing at was in the middle of nowhere. We we're here for a huge ass party, and not just any party, the Monkies Doin' It beer and music benefit. The place was filled with people that paid $5.00 for their beer buffet (Lord knows we got our share). Along with the necessities we're sweet jams provided by Fusion, Monkies Doin' It, Herb'n Pipeline, as well as The Raspas and others. We want to thank Monkies Doin' It for having us and hope to play the benefit again next year.

6/24/05
It was Aaron's birthday so we had to bring it back home. We brought down Herb'n Pipeline after performing with them in San Antonio and Harlingen was stunned. Finally, another reggae band hits the valley! No doubt that they'll be back along with a bunch of other great bands we've found while journeying through Texas. The show was sweet. Thanks for everyone coming out and showing Aaron and Herb'n some love.

6/23/05
Well after playing ping pong with Corpus Christi and South Padre it was time to venture out further, this time to San Antonio's historic Sam's Burger Joint. On this day of game 7 of the NBA Finals Monkies Doin' It, Sun Salutation, Herb'n Pipeline, and your Raspas put on an amazing show. Everyone jammed with burgers and beers in there hand, but all that anyone ever cared about in the end was that the SPURS WON!!! Nothing other than crowds of people, honking cars, and happiness filled the streets. On our way back to our hotel we and Heb'n Pipeline got so enthusiastic about it all that we practically formed our own drum line on top Herbn's van (we have it recorded and will try to get it on here). The night turned out great. We'll definitely see SA again soon.

6/19/05
Corpus Christi jammed out to the well anticipated show featuring The Raspas and Flat Broke. We know of no other place that gets as crazy on a Sunday night like Corpus. We want to thank all those who came out and also Flat Broke for opening the night with sweet jams.

6/11/05
After coming back from Corpus and laying back for a week we jammed at South Padre's favorite Gazebo, Coconuts. We played all night over looking the bay. Everyone there had a blast.

6/4/05
We headed to Corpus once again to venture into a new club we had never played before, The Lizard Lounge. The night turned out sweet with other jams provided by Herb'n Pipeline. It was a good night for reggae in downtown Corpus Christi.

5/20/05
After checking out the coast it was time to head west to McAllen. We we're honored to play at Barock's last show. We've had a lot of memories there and are sad to see it go. Thanks to F. I. N and The Y Equals for helping us say farewell.

5/13/05
It was time to head to the gulf. We jammed out all night for the party people on South Padre. We hope everyone that was there at Tequila Sunset goes to Coconuts when we hit it up in June!

5/6/05
After a great show in Corpus it was good to come home and have a good time in Brownsville at Chapas. The show was sweetly mixed up with punk sounds from The Destroyers and Border Rats, and hip hop from Fisherman.

5/5/05
The crowd at Equal Eyes had a blast as we jammed out along with Herb'n Pipeline. The night felt accomplishing as we thought of how often we've been playing Corpus lately. Thanks to everyone that headed out and big thanks to Herb'n Pipeline for hosting a great night.

4/29/05
This was a great night for ska in Corpus. The night got kicked of with Kevin Goes 2 College, then came Captain Bringdown, along with Herb'n Pipeline. Thanks to everyone that went. We're looking forward to the upcoming shows we have with Herb'n Pipeline up there.

4/22/05
So we played the Quadruple Music Fest in Austin, we played Corpus, and jammed out in the Marley Fest After Party; It was about that time to come back to the valley. Not just the valley but our hometown of Harlingen at Smiley's Ballroom. It was a great show. It was Foster's, Omega's bassist, last show. We hope he's having a good time in Mexico.

4/16/05
We were proud to be a part of the Official Austin - Marley Fest After Party at Alligator Grill. The night sounded even sweeter with Grimy Styles along with Aiman. We want to say what's up to each of them. We had a blast.

4/3/05
This show
at Dr. Rockits was dubbed up proper. With sounds from The Raspas as well as Austin's Grimy Styles, everyone got right to dancing.

3/27/05
Had to show Corpus some more love. Sun Salutation rocked the stage with us.

3/17/05
The Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival went off. Our showcase was held at 6th street's Treasure Island and we rocked the place leaving quite an impression on those who may have never herd of us before. We're looking forward to doing more shows in Austin so be sure to follow up. We met a pretty cool band called
Southern Lights feel free to check em out.

3/15/05
We just had to hit up South Padre one more time before our trip to Austin. Almost everyone that had seen us the past week headed out to Coconuts for one last good-bye.

3/14/05
The second performance at Palm St. Pier was just as good as the first. "Texas Week" had officially started and the people soon rushed to hear some of the sweet sound on this beautiful Spring Break day.

3/14/05
With a performance scheduled later on in the day we through it down on the Islands best tattoo shop, Inkredible Tattoos (right next to the infamous Cloud 9), Jammin out on the second floor as we looked down at the crowd was pretty interesting. Nobody ended up with a Raspa tattoo, but maybe next time. For future notice, we will give a free shirt or CD to anyone that gets a Raspa tattoo!

3/13/05
Round two for Coconuts was awesome. With a crowd even bigger than the first, everyone got down.

3/12/05
The beached out gazebo called Coconuts in South Padre Island went off as we took the music in to the late night. We met some really enthusiastic people from all over the country that really enjoyed our music. We want to thank our new friends from college station for jammin out with us at this as well as the next four shows. We also want to thank our new friend Steve for the beautiful nugs!

3/9/05
Palm St. Pier had us play during the day on this beautiful Wednesday. The drunken spring breakers on South Padre loved it!

3/7/05
We hit SPRING BREAK hard and kicked it all off with a bang at Parrot Eyes on South Padre. The bay looked nice from the pier at this slick place and we jammed reggae music all night long. What's up to our new crazy friends from Boston!

3/4/05
We knew that we would be jammin all over South Padre Island for for the "Texas Week" of Spring Break, but we had to show some love to another beach first. We played right in front Corpus Christi's famous Lexington ship at Blue Ghost Landing. The huge ship was right behind the stage and made a pretty slick Kodak moment. If anyone has any pictures of that night, mail them to TheRaspas@aol.com. We would really appreciate it and give you photo credit! Shout out to
Supa Green for havin an awesome performance. We have more Corpus performances coming up soon!

2/25/05
Smiley's Ballroom in Harlingen was filled with music and fans from all over the Valley. With the odd combination of reggae, ska, punk, and metal, everyone was rockin. The CD has been out for only a month, so props to those in the crowd singing the lyrics along with us! Also, thanks also goes out to Matchlit Memory, The Destroyers, and Omega for putting on solid performances.

2/18/05
B-town went off as we played this show at Rackdaddys. Now there was just one more corner of the Valley to hit before we booked it to Corpus Christi.

2/12/05
With the new CD out we had to show South Padre Island some love. This performance at Louie's Backyard was a perfect way of letting everyone on the Island know about our EP as we played on the bay. Thanks to all the locals for showing their love and support.

1/14/05
The CD release party went off! We want to thank everyone for their support. In case you didn't get a chance to buy the CD that night, we want to let everyone know that we'll be selling them at every show for now on. The CD's are also being sold under the
merch section of the website.

12/24/04
Who would of thought that after coming back from Austin Brownsville would be even colder? It even snowed throughout the entire valley as we played at Rackdaddys. It was a different kind of night, not only because of the snow, but because for the first time on stage Aaron and Bryan switched on each others instruments for a couple songs. One of the weirdest Christmas Eve's we've ever seen.

12/20/04
After two shows in a row, the third one landed in Austin's infamous 6th street. Playing on the outside stage at The Vibe, the performance went off and got Austin, TX warm again on that cold night. We want to thank Tim and them for hooking us up, and also all the other crews that showed up from the valley.

12/19/04
We had one more day to show Corpus Christi our love before we would take off to Austin. Dr. Rockets held on tight as performances by both Monkies Doin It and The Raspas took place. Thanks to Squirrel and those Monkies for doing what they do!

12/18/04
On this day we hit the road and headed out to Corpus Christi, TX. The huge club called Bourbon Street had just reopened and it was the perfect show to play. The whole night had no other music than The Raspas; no other bands, just the many styles. Everyone on the floor and the staff had a blast. We have pictures of the night in our picture section, so check them out!

12/11/04
Chapas in Brownsville went off all night! People packed the small place in Brownsville. It was our first time playing with The Destroyers, they ripped it. Following shortly after were Parkwood Avenue and Division 623 along with your very own sweet Raspas.

11/13/04
We have always thought about playing at AK's, but we assumed that only a boss Dj could perform there. Well, we were wrong. There's more to the previous date at Barock. It turns out that the individual who schedules the live entertainment at AK's down the street was enjoying his $1.50 beer while watching us at Barock. He talked to us after the show and put us on for that Monday; it would be a small performance to give there crowd, but would be a little taste before our big performance on this weeks Saturday.

11/13/04
It was about time we hit up McAllen again so what better place than the eminent Barock. Actually it was a last minute performance; the guy throwing the 8 band show put us on without really telling us. Turns out, a couple days before the show, a band that was scheduled to play on this night, Division 623, ended up telling us that we were on. He also said that a lot of people we're going to go see their Raspas play. We want to thank EVERYONE that was on that sweet dance floor, and we want to especially thank Barnett from Division 623 for letting us know about the show!

11/5/04
After that scary night at Rack Daddys we decided to head over there again. This was a much more normal night than the week before, but this tome we didn't get to see any of those girls dressed as skimpy cops. Though It was still great.

10/30/04
Hallows Eve at Rack Daddy's in Harlingen was crazy. The huge costume party lasted all night and then some. The hour rolled back to bust out even more reggae flavor for the packed crowd. We want to thank everyone that dressed up (which was just about everyone), especially the beautiful women dressed up ass skimpy cops, dominatrixes and such.

10/22/04
The show at Barock was a huge one; with performances by The Raspas, Powderburn, and Driving the Nails everyone was amazed. We wanna thank the bands as well as Barock for throwing this awsome show.

10/03/04
After the previous mellow performance it was time for a full blown out show; and what a better place than Corpus Christi to change up a few things. The venue, Dr. Rockits, was home to the same stage Los Lonely Boys and the recent Whalers had played on. With performances by both The Raspas and Supa Green the packed crowd certainly went wild. We'd like to thank David, Aaron, and everyone from Supa Green, as well as squirrel. It was a great jam, have to do it again sometime.

9/25/04
Sauza's hosted The Raspas on this amazing Saturday night in Harlignen, TX. It was a more mellowed down performance than usual with acoustic flavor here and there. We even played a few new songs.

9/18/04
After performing at Rackdaddys in Harlingen we had to go see what was up at the Rackdaddys in Brownsville. The night went off with the sounds off Omega, Above Ground as well as your very own Raspas. The combination of this metal, alternative, reggae music combined to please everyone in the big pool hall. We want to thank Rick Barton, manager of Above Ground and dj for Q 94.5 The Rock Station, for putting this show together.

9/11/04
The South Texas Scorcher was a great concert. Thousands of people showed up for the big event at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, TX and everyone got down to The Raspa sound. Though we were the oddest style out of the many bands, people gathered around to skank and mash to the outgoing set.

9/4/04
The show went so good with Powderburn two weeks before that we played with them once again except this time it was held at Barok in Pharr, TX. Thanks to the great sound, stage and lighting system, as well as the $1.50 drinks it was a great night. We want to thank Powderburn for coming down from Austin to shred the stage, and of course all the fans that came out. Barock said this weekend was the biggest turn out they've ever had!

8/21/04
This show at Smiley's Ballroom in Harlingen, TX went off! The show consisted of a big crowd and great music. Thanks to Powderburn for coming down from Austin; who would have thought a show full of metal and reggae would turn out so good.

8/18/04
It was another fine Wednesday night at South Padre Island, TX, and an even finer one at the Palm St. Pier. Jammin from the sunset into the night was a beautiful thing. Everybody was getting in to it.

8/14/04
It was our 2nd time at Rackdaddys in one week, but it was much more packed than Thursday. Thanks to everyone that stayed even though you didn't have much dancing room with the tons of people walking about.

8/12/04
On this day we performed at Rackdaddys in Harlingen, TX. Everyone got into it with performances from No Vacancy and Split Image as well as us. We couldn't wait to play there again this weekend.

8/4/04
A week after the Tequila Frogs' Battle of the Bands we went back and played a couple of times. Well, they heard the sound across the street at a place called the Palm Street Pier and wanted us at their venue; so on this Wednesday we jammed at South Padre's Palm Street Pier. It went off; we're looking forward to playing there next week.

8/5/04
Creasey's Bowling Alley was the host of this night in Harlingen. Came ten o'clock the lights went down while the neon went up along with the music. Everyone was getting their bowl on as well as their dance. Thanks to everyone that went; we'll certainly do it again.

8/6/04
It was our third performance in tree days. Chris Edward's 21st birthday was the best party of the '04 summer. We Played with Last Minute Hero's and had a crazy night. Props to Mike, Chris, and everyone else who through this insane party.

7/10/04
Saturday we ended up playing again at Tequila Frogs. We were around and didn't have anything lined up for the night; we got a call from them so why not!

7/9/04
On this Friday we played on the battle grounds of the previous week at Tequila Frogs. Instead of 21 bands they just got The Raspas. We'd like to thank all the locals that got the place moving that night as well as those people from Georgia.

7/3/04
On day two at the Tequila Frogs Battle of the Bands we went up and did our thing. We didn't take it home, but we must have left a good impression; one of the judges, Stacey Taylor from South Texas radio station Q 94.5, chose us for their band of the week. And we also got asked to do a show at Tequila Frogs that same week.

7/2/04
The Independent Rock Fest (Battle of the Bands) on South Padre Island was a crazy night! Over 20 bands performed in hopes of making it to the second heat on the next day. With all the competition we got there and were psyched about tomorrow!

6/30/04
Back to Harlingen we played once again at RQ's Night Club. Fed of Me returned the favor and jammed a set before us. It was good to see people from the night before in Edinburgh. Thanks again to Fed of Me; it was bad ass.

6/29/04
Our first show in Edinburgh was a good one; Dead Gift Productions threw a killer show with us along with Subdue and Fed of Me. RA's was packed that night. RA's not to be confused with RQ's where we yet to play the next day.

6/13/04
On this day we played at the Villa Real in McAllen. We jammed with 13 Victim, Subdue, and many others. It was a huge event with pro and amateur skaters going off all day. Thanks to Dead Gift Productions for doing their thing.

6/2/04
The show at RQ's Night Club huge! There were more people that showed up there on Wednesday than there were at The Vibe in Austin on a Saturday! It's good to know we have a good scene in South Texas. Along with us were four other bands: Step 10, 3rd n long, Fisherman and Helleri. Everyone jammed out to perfection and everyone loved it. The night ended the way many great shows do; A crazy mash pit and cops. Thanks to everyone that helped pass out flyers and run the show. The scene is only getting bigger.

5/22/04
It was the day before this Saturday we got a call about an open slot in Austin on 6th street at The Vibe. Within an hour we loaded up and got ready for the road. We arrived at the club at 8:50; we went on at 9:00. It was a great night for some reggae on 6th street and it won't be the only one. They asked for us back to play for one of their psychedelic Tuesdays. We're thinking of renting a huge bus to take a big crew with us. If anyone is down to go and pitch in feel free to hit us up!

4/24/04
The only show in April was a good one at the City Limts club in Donna. Jammin out with bands such as Fed Of Me, 3rd n Long, and The Idiots made it an entertaining night. Thanks to everyone that stayed to whatch us at the end of the show, it was great.

3/26/04
To cap spring break off, you know we had to show some love once again at the Island Oasis. The night was filled with of all kinds of music from the metal of Identity Kill and Methmare Motorcade all the way down to The Raspas stylE. It was a fulfilling way to end spring break 2004.

3/22/04
It was our first time playing at Coconuts on the lovely South Padre Island. With people from all over the states it was a different experience, but we made a lot of friends from all over, so what's up to Minnesota, Wisconson, Michigan, Jersey, and New York. Come back when you wanna get out of the cold. O, and for every one that was there from Cali, roll one for us.

3/15/04
The Bahi Mar was a good show; we went on with Fisherman did our reggae hip hop thing with em and got the sring breakers all rowdy. It was beutiful.

3/13/04
Thanks to everyone that showed up to Baloos on this fine Saturday night. For the rain was falling, but that just added on to the flavor of The Raspas. We had a great second time at this urban gazebo.

3/11/04
The 11th of March and it was time to start playing on the Island for spring break. What better place to play than 2 0 2's. Jamming out for the early spring breakers kewl, and being our first time at 2 0 2's made it even more interesting.

3/5/04
Two days after the van trouble and we were ready for some excitement. Since we had no van it was good to play in our home town at Balloos. It was our first night playing there so we didn't know what to expect. Turned out everyone loved it; the atmosphere mixed with the music along with the beer and it all turned out great. Everyone enjoyed it so much they asked us back for next week, and on Saturday March the 13th, that's where we'll be.

3/3/04
All right, the classic story, we were on our way to South Padre Island to play at the Blue Iguana when in the middle of a little town called Los Fresno's the van broke down. After pushing it to the nearest bar we called triple A but while we waited we told the owner of Taco Madre our sorrows and he gave us a round of beer on the house. Long story short, we'll probably be playing at Taco Madre pretty soon to show our appreciation. As far as The Blue Iguana, we're sorry for anyone that went out, we we're by the huge green van with the cracked engine. O, and by the way, does anyone have a good trailer?

2/27/04
On the Thursday of Charro Days in Brownsville The Raspas played in the back of O'Leary's. It was a cold night, but once we played Sensi everyone was blazin. The dancin helped as well, thanks to everyone who showed up in the 40's.

2/16/04
Presidents Day we jammed there once again. Why at O'Leary's two days in a row? Well, the night before, when we played, their house cover band noticed us and told us to come back on this day. Turned out they played most of the night but let us get a good, well applauded set in. Flounder went, so with the Correspondence from the night before, he got in on a couple songs.

2/15/04
The day after Valentines, Flounder, M.C. of the hip hop group Fisherman, threw his birthday at O'Leary's in Brownsville. We opened for Fisherman but when it was time for them to go on, they realized they didn't have the CD with the beats! They asked if we could maybe improvise and make a few. As it turned out, we blended perfectly; Aaron even threw a few freestyles.

1/15/04
The first time The Raspas had played in the new year of '04 was at the Velvet Room. It was an amazing night with other bands such as Step 10, Repose, and Park Ave. as well. Thanks to everyone who showed up and showed support.
